The name of the breed was changed back to German Shepherd Dog in original form. German Shepherd are also known as GSD in the short form. The German Shepherd Dog (Alsatian) has become one of the most popular breeds with pet owners, who consider them loving and loyal companions.

Some major targets of this non-profit organization are to collect and publish information related to the German Shepherd Dog. The responsibilities of GSDCP include the issuance of pedigrees, insertion of microchips for identification purposes, breeding programs, conduction of breed surveys, broadcasting of dietary and veterinary information, training and handling, arrangement of dog shows and the deliverance of all other kinds of educational material for the overall benefit of the members.

The German Shepherd is from Germany (who would have thought?). They were originally bred for their striking good looks and intelligence, making for a great working dog on the police force and in the military. They were so cute that dog-lovers in other countries soon caught on and began breeding them themselves.
