Thief Dog Traced Within Few hours In Army Dog Center Okara. Spurring the illegal breeding is the great demand for pedigree dogs. Most of the dogs that are Dognapped (stealing a dog, especially in order to sell it) are Golden Retrievers, Labradors and German Shepherds. With pedigree dogs costing thousands (sometimes lakhs) of rupees, it’s no surprise that some dogs are stolen and sold.

There was no evading police dog Tora, who caught the thief on Sunday morning while he was trying to break into a business in Mayfield. The man had attempted to hide, but was cuffed thanks to the actions of the outstanding force canine.

He was arrested and charged and was expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday. The man was also wanted on petition apprehension warrant.

The police investigation has determined the dog was taken without consent from the property. Thefts of dogs are not unusual, but they are not common, either, O’Brien said. Thieves have been reported for stealing 354 dogs in South Yorkshire over the last four years, new figures reveal.

But an expert organisation dedicated to reuniting pets with their owners have warned the true figure is ‘much higher’. The DogLost organisation say criminals who previously sold stolen metal have now turned their attention to taking dogs.

The German Shepherd belonged to Jyothidhar Singh, a businessman from Keshavgiri. According to the police, on Monday, a person identified as a resident of Barkas, came to Singh’s house and took the pup away after unchaining him.

“He took the dog along with him to keep at his house. He has a few more canines at his place and during his previous visit to Singh’s house, he had spotted the German Shepherd and planned to take him away,” said Rudra Bhaskar, Station House Officer, Chandrayangutta.
