Lahore Gas Cylinder Explosion Injures Family Members in Sabzazar

Lahore – July 16, 2025:
A painful incident occurred in the early morning hours in Lahore when a gas cylinder exploded inside a family home, causing serious injuries to several family members. The blast, which shook the Sabzazar neighborhood, has raised fresh concerns about gas safety in residential areas.

Early Morning Blast Shocks Residents

As per eyewitnesses, the explosion happened around 6:30 AM in a house located in the Sabzazar locality. The family was reportedly preparing breakfast when the gas cylinder in their kitchen suddenly exploded. The loud blast broke windows, damaged furniture, and started a fire in the house.

Neighbors who heard the explosion quickly rushed to help. Some brave residents entered the burning home to pull out the injured family members. Rescue 1122 teams reached the spot shortly after and began rescue operations.

Injuries and Hospitalization

The explosion left four people injured: a 40-year-old woman, her two children aged 10 and 14, and an elderly man believed to be the children’s grandfather. According to doctors at Jinnah Hospital, where the victims were admitted, two of the family members are in critical condition with severe burn injuries, while the other two are stable.

Relatives of the family gathered at the hospital, praying for the recovery of their loved ones. The family has reportedly been living in the area for many years and was known for being friendly and peaceful.

Suspected Cause of the Explosion

Initial investigation suggests that there may have been a gas leak during the night. Experts believe that gas collected inside the kitchen, and when the stove was turned on in the morning, it triggered the explosion.

Rescue officials are looking into whether the gas cylinder was expired or faulty. Gas safety specialists caution that using outdated cylinders, faulty gas lines, or substandard regulators can increase the risk of hazardous explosions in homes.

Community in Fear and Shock

The incident has shaken the entire neighborhood. Many people are now scared about the safety of using gas cylinders in their own homes. “It could have happened to any of us,” said a local resident, adding that people should be more careful with gas connections.

Some neighbors have already started checking their gas cylinders and valves. Others are demanding regular inspections and better awareness from the government about household gas safety.

Authorities Take Action

Lahore’s Deputy Commissioner has initiated a formal investigation to determine the exact cause of the explosion. Emergency services have also been instructed to ensure proper treatment of the injured family. In addition, the Lahore Municipal Corporation has announced a campaign to check the quality and safety of gas cylinders in homes, especially in older areas.

Important Safety Tips for Families

Authorities are reminding citizens to follow safety rules when using gas cylinders:

  • Turn off the cylinder valve at night.
  • Check for leaks regularly.
  • Avoid using expired or damaged cylinders.
  • If you smell gas, open windows and do not light a match or turn on electrical switches.
  • Install gas leak detectors for added safety.

Conclusion

This sad incident is a reminder of how important gas safety is in our daily lives. A small mistake or unnoticed leak can lead to a life-changing tragedy. As the injured family continues to receive medical care, authorities and residents alike are being urged to take preventive steps to avoid future disasters.
