Free Medicines Announced for Citizens in Gujranwala by Government

Gujranwala, July 2025 –
In a major step towards improving public healthcare, the government has officially announced a new program to provide free medicines to the residents of Gujranwala. This initiative aims to support poor and middle-class families who are unable to afford expensive medical treatments.
According to local authorities, this project will start immediately in government hospitals and Basic Health Units (BHUs) across the city. Under this program, essential medicines for common diseases such as fever, flu, infections, blood pressure, and diabetes will be available free of cost.
Aim of the Program
Speaking at a press conference, a senior official from the health department said,
“This initiative is being launched to ensure that no citizen is left untreated due to lack of money. Everyone has the right to basic healthcare, and the government is committed to making that possible.”
The program will initially cover over 70 essential medicines, and more will be added based on public needs and expert recommendations. A special team has been appointed to monitor the distribution and prevent any misuse of the free supply.
Positive Public Response
The news has been welcomed warmly by the people of Gujranwala. Many residents expressed happiness and relief.
A local resident, Muhammad Ashfaq, said,
“I spend a large part of my income on medicines for my mother’s diabetes. Free medicines will ease our burden.”
Another citizen, Ayesha Bibi, mentioned,
“Now I don’t have to decide whether to feed my children or pay for their medicine. This step by the government is truly helpful.”
Hospitals Being Prepared
Health officials are already working with hospital staff to set up separate counters for free medicine distribution. The staff is being trained to deal with patients respectfully and provide them with complete information.
The District Health Officer (DHO) of Gujranwala confirmed that the medicines will be supplied directly from certified pharmaceutical companies and will meet all quality standards. He added,
“Ensuring top-quality medicines is non-negotiable — our citizens’ health and well-being come before everything else.”
Expansion Plans
If the program in Gujranwala proves successful, it will soon be expanded to other cities in Punjab. The provincial government is also considering launching a helpline number where people can register complaints if they face any issues in getting medicines.
Final Words
This initiative marks a positive step toward accessible healthcare in Pakistan. At a time when inflation has made life difficult for many, free medicines can bring much-needed relief to thousands of families.
The government has urged citizens to cooperate with hospital staff and follow proper procedures to make this program successful and long-lasting.
