Strong Winds and Thunderstorms Expected Across Upper and Central Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning for strong windstorms, thunderstorms, and heavy rains in the upper and central parts of Pakistan from the night of May 27 until May 31, with some breaks in between.

According to the PMD, moist air currents are steadily moving into these regions, and a westerly wave is expected to enter the northern areas on May 28, which will trigger widespread weather disturbances.

Under this weather system, windstorms and rain accompanied by thunder and isolated heavy showers, including hailstorms, are likely in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, and Mianwali.

The forecast also includes Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Sheikhupura.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and nearby areas, districts such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Karak, and Waziristan will be affected.

Parts of Balochistan and South Punjab, including Zhob, Ziarat, Barkhan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Vehari, and Dera Ismail Khan, may also experience windstorms with light to moderate rain and thunder from the evening of May 27 to May 30.

The PMD has cautioned that strong winds, dust storms, hail, and lightning could damage weak structures like electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels, especially in the upper and central areas, including Islamabad. Farmers are advised to plan their agricultural activities carefully.

Citizens, travelers, and tourists should take necessary precautions during this period. All relevant authorities have been placed on high alert to manage any emergencies and ensure safety.
