Former Sindh Governor Kamal Azfar Passes Away at 95
KARACHI – Senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and former Sindh governor, Barrister Kamal Azfar, has passed away at the age of 95 after a prolonged illness, confirmed Senator Waqar Mehdi on Monday.
The details regarding his funeral prayers will be announced later, as the arrangements are expected to be finalized once his children arrive from abroad.
Kamal Azfar was appointed as Governor of Sindh in 1995 during the tenure of then Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Before that, he had resigned from his position as a senator. He was also known as a close associate of PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and played a significant role in the party’s early political journey.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed deep sorrow over Azfar’s passing and praised his lifelong contributions to the political landscape of Sindh and Pakistan. He offered condolences to the grieving family and prayed for the departed soul’s elevation in the hereafter.
PPP Senator Sherry Rehman, in a post on her official X account, also mourned the loss. She described Kamal Azfar as a respected lawyer, political activist, and former governor who worked closely with Benazir Bhutto, especially on reforms in local governance and other key public initiatives.
Azfar’s legacy as a committed public servant and experienced legal mind will be remembered for years to come.
